Course overview

Every data role — analyst, engineer, administrator or scientist — depends on the same core ideas: how data is structured, where it is stored, how it moves and how it becomes useful insight. This one-day course builds that foundation using Azure services and Microsoft Fabric, with short labs so the concepts become concrete.

The morning covers core data concepts: structured, semi-structured and unstructured data; transactional and analytical workloads; and the roles that work with data. You then explore relational data on Azure, including SQL basics, normalisation and the Azure SQL family, and run your first queries against a cloud database.

Next you look at non-relational data — Azure Blob Storage, Azure Files, Azure Tables and Azure Cosmos DB — and learn when each one fits. The afternoon turns to analytics: data ingestion, data lakes and warehouses, real-time analytics, Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. A short lab ends with a simple report built from sample data.

The final session explains how fundamentals exams work and walks through practice questions so you can see which areas to revise.

This course is aligned to the DP-900 exam. Microsoft updates exam outlines periodically, so check the current skills measured on Microsoft Learn before booking.
