Why AWS?
Why learn AWS?
Amazon Web Services has the broadest catalogue of cloud services of any provider, and it is widely used by start-ups, product companies and large enterprises alike. Because so many teams build on AWS, the certifications have become a common way for employers to judge whether a candidate understands the core building blocks — IAM, VPC networking, EC2, S3, managed databases and serverless services — and how to combine them securely and economically.
Roles and certifications
- Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) — foundational knowledge for technical and non-technical staff.
- Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA-C03) — the most common first technical AWS certification.
- Developer – Associate and CloudOps Engineer – Associate — for builders and operations engineers.
- Data Engineer and Machine Learning Engineer – Associate — for data pipelines and ML workloads.
- Professional and Specialty certifications — architecture at scale, DevOps, security and advanced networking.
How to choose your path
If cloud is new to you, Cloud Practitioner is a sensible first step: it gives you vocabulary and a feel for billing and the shared responsibility model. Engineers with some infrastructure background often skip it and start with Solutions Architect – Associate, which covers the design trade-offs you will meet in almost every AWS role. From there, choose by job: developers go to Developer – Associate, operations engineers to CloudOps, data professionals to Data Engineer, and architects towards Solutions Architect – Professional.
Professional and Specialty exams expect real experience. AWS recommends hands-on time before attempting them, and our trainers will be honest with you about readiness. Every batch includes guided labs, architecture whiteboarding and exam-style practice questions written by our team.
A practical tip: whichever exam you choose, spend time on cost and security from the start. Many AWS questions hinge on choosing the option that is cheapest, most resilient or least operationally demanding, and those trade-offs are exactly what employers want to see in real projects.
AWS renames and versions exams from time to time (for example, SysOps Administrator became CloudOps Engineer – Associate). Confirm the current exam guide on the AWS Certification website.
AWS FAQs
Is Cloud Practitioner required before Solutions Architect – Associate?
No. There are no formal prerequisites. Cloud Practitioner helps if you are new to cloud, but many engineers start directly with Solutions Architect – Associate.
Will I need my own AWS account?
Most labs use the AWS Free Tier or a provided sandbox. Your trainer shows you how to set billing alerts and clean up resources so you stay within free limits.
How long are AWS certifications valid?
AWS certifications have generally been valid for three years. Check the AWS Certification website for the current recertification options.
Can I take the exam online from India or the Gulf?
AWS exams are offered at test centres and through online proctoring in many countries. Availability and languages vary, so check the options when you schedule.
