Why CompTIA Core?
Why start with CompTIA?
CompTIA certifications are vendor-neutral. Instead of teaching one company’s products, they teach how hardware, operating systems, networks, cloud and Linux work in general. That makes them a strong foundation for anyone starting in IT, and a useful way for experienced staff to fill gaps before moving into specialist or vendor-specific roles.
Where these certifications lead
- A+ — desktop and IT support, help desk, field technician roles.
- Network+ — junior network administrator and NOC roles; also a common stepping stone to Cisco and security certifications.
- Cloud+ — cloud operations across providers, including deployment, security and troubleshooting.
- Linux+ — Linux administration, a core skill for DevOps, cloud and security work.
How to choose
If you are new to IT, A+ gives you broad coverage of hardware, operating systems, troubleshooting and basic security. If you already work in support, Network+ is often the most valuable next step, because networking knowledge underpins cloud and security roles. Linux+ suits those heading towards DevOps or server administration, and Cloud+ is a good fit for operations staff who support workloads on more than one cloud.
A common route is A+ then Network+ then Security+ (in our Cybersecurity category). Others move from Network+ to CCNA for deeper networking, or from Linux+ to Red Hat RHCSA. Our trainers can help you map a route based on the jobs you are targeting.
CompTIA exams include performance-based questions, where you complete a short task in a simulated environment rather than simply choosing an answer. That rewards practice over memorisation. Our courses combine concept sessions with guided troubleshooting exercises, so you learn to approach a problem methodically — identify the symptom, test a theory, apply a fix and verify the result.
These foundations are also valuable for teams. Organisations often use A+ and Network+ to give new support staff a consistent baseline, and we run private batches for that purpose.
CompTIA updates exam versions on a regular cycle. Confirm the current exam code on the CompTIA website before booking.
CompTIA Core FAQs
Does A+ involve one exam or two?
A+ has traditionally required two exams, Core 1 and Core 2. Our course covers both. Confirm the current exam codes on the CompTIA website.
Can I skip A+ and go straight to Network+?
Yes. There are no mandatory prerequisites. If you already have support experience, Network+ is often a better use of your time.
Do CompTIA certifications expire?
Many CompTIA certifications are valid for three years and can be renewed through continuing education. Check the CompTIA website for the current rules.
Is Linux+ useful if I plan to take RHCSA?
Linux+ is vendor-neutral and broad, while RHCSA is practical and Red Hat specific. Some learners take both; others go directly to RHCSA if they work with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
