CAPM® – Certified Associate in Project Management

Many professionals take on project work long before they have the experience required for the PMP. The CAPM certification from PMI recognises a solid grasp of project management fundamentals and is designed for people at the start of their project careers. This three-day course gives you that grounding and prepares you for the CAPM exam.

Day one introduces project management fundamentals: what projects are, the project life cycle, roles and responsibilities, and core concepts such as scope, schedule, cost, risk and stakeholders. Day two covers predictive, plan-based methods, from defining scope and building a schedule to managing quality, risk and change, and then moves to agile frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban, including roles, events, artefacts and estimation. Day three explores business analysis frameworks, including requirements elicitation, analysis and traceability, and finishes with exam preparation.

Short exercises help ideas stick. You will draft a simple charter, build a work breakdown structure and schedule, write user stories and prioritise a backlog, and create a basic requirements traceability matrix. These are the same tasks you are likely to support as a project coordinator or junior analyst.

The CAPM exam requires 23 hours of project management education to apply; this 24-hour course covers that requirement. The course is aligned to the CAPM exam as published by PMI.
