Why DevOps & Containers?
Why DevOps and containers?
Software teams are expected to release often without breaking things. DevOps practices — automation, version-controlled infrastructure, continuous integration and delivery, and good observability — make that possible. Containers and Kubernetes have become the standard way to package and run modern applications, and tools such as Terraform and Ansible let teams describe infrastructure as code that can be reviewed and repeated.
Roles and skills
- DevOps engineer — pipelines, automation and release practices (Jenkins, Ansible, DevOps Foundation).
- Platform or Kubernetes administrator — running clusters reliably (CKA).
- Application developer on Kubernetes — designing and deploying cloud-native apps (CKAD).
- Kubernetes security specialist — hardening clusters and workloads (CKS).
- Infrastructure engineer — provisioning with Terraform across clouds.
How to choose
If DevOps is new to you or your team, DevOps Foundation explains the principles and culture behind the tools. Engineers usually start practically with Docker, because containers are the base for everything that follows. From there, CKA suits administrators and CKAD suits developers; CKS is an advanced step that, under the Linux Foundation’s current rules, requires an active CKA. Terraform Associate is valuable for anyone who provisions cloud infrastructure, and pairs well with an AWS, Azure or Google Cloud certification.
The Kubernetes exams are performance-based: you solve tasks in a live terminal under time pressure. Our courses are built around that format, with plenty of command-line practice and timed exercises.
DevOps is as much about habits as tools. Throughout our courses we emphasise version control for everything, small and reversible changes, automated testing, and monitoring that tells you when something is wrong before users do. These practices make the certifications more meaningful, because you learn not just how to run a command but why teams work this way. For platform teams, we can align labs with the cloud provider and CI/CD tooling you already use.
Exam versions and policies change. Confirm details on the Linux Foundation, HashiCorp or relevant vendor website before booking.
DevOps & Containers FAQs
Do I need Linux skills for Kubernetes?
Yes. You should be comfortable with the Linux command line, editing files and basic networking. If not, consider Linux+ or RHCSA first.
CKA or CKAD first?
Choose CKA if you will run or support clusters, and CKAD if you mainly build and deploy applications. There is substantial overlap, and many people take both.
Is Terraform useful if my company uses only one cloud?
Yes. Terraform brings repeatability, code review and version control to infrastructure, which helps even in a single-cloud environment.
Can you train our whole platform team?
Yes. We run private batches for teams and can align labs with the tools and cloud platforms you already use.
