Why ITSM, Architecture & Quality?

Why service management, architecture and quality?

Technology teams are judged on the services they deliver: whether systems are available, changes are safe, incidents are resolved quickly and investments support business goals. This category brings together frameworks that help organisations do that well — ITIL for service management, COBIT for governance, TOGAF for enterprise architecture, and Lean Six Sigma for measurable process improvement.

Who benefits

  • Service desk, operations and support staff — ITIL 4 Foundation gives a shared language for incidents, problems, changes and value.
  • Service managers and team leads — ITIL 4 Specialist modules such as Create, Deliver and Support.
  • IT governance, risk and audit professionals — COBIT 2019 Foundation.
  • Solution and enterprise architects — TOGAF Enterprise Architecture.
  • Quality, operations and transformation leads — Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt.

How to choose

ITIL 4 Foundation is the most common entry point and is useful for almost anyone in IT operations. If your organisation is formalising IT governance or preparing for audits, COBIT complements ITIL well. Architects who need a structured method for developing and governing architectures should look at TOGAF. Lean Six Sigma is not IT-specific; it suits anyone who leads improvement projects and wants a data-driven approach to reducing waste and variation.

These frameworks are most valuable when applied. Our trainers use case studies from IT operations, shared services and product organisations, and we can tailor private batches around your own processes.

A useful way to think about these frameworks is that they answer different questions. ITIL asks how we deliver and support services well. COBIT asks whether IT is governed so that it meets business objectives and manages risk. TOGAF asks how the organisation’s architecture should evolve. Lean Six Sigma asks how a specific process can be measured and improved. Many organisations use several together, and professionals who understand how they connect are valuable in transformation programmes.

Lean Six Sigma certification is offered by several bodies with different requirements. Ask us which certifying body your batch uses.

ITSM, Architecture & Quality FAQs

Is ITIL 4 Foundation still worth it?

Yes. It remains a widely used reference for IT service management and helps teams across support, operations and development speak the same language.

What comes after ITIL 4 Foundation?

Specialist and Strategist modules build towards higher ITIL designations. Create, Deliver and Support is a popular next step for practitioners. Check PeopleCert for the current scheme.

Do I need a Green Belt before a Black Belt?

Requirements depend on the certifying body. Many learners take Green Belt first and complete a project before Black Belt. We will explain the rules for your batch.

Is TOGAF only for large organisations?

TOGAF is most often used in larger organisations, but its concepts help any architect structure decisions, communicate with stakeholders and manage change.
