Course overview

PSM I is known for testing a precise understanding of Scrum as described in the Scrum Guide. Many people who use Scrum at work find the assessment harder than expected, because everyday practice often drifts from the framework. This two-day course helps you understand Scrum accurately and apply it with good judgement.

Day one focuses on Scrum theory and the framework: empiricism, Lean thinking, the Scrum values, the three accountabilities, the five events and the three artefacts with their commitments. We read key passages of the Scrum Guide closely and discuss why each element exists. Day two turns to the Scrum Master stance: facilitation, coaching, teaching and supporting self-managing, cross-functional teams, along with product value, the definition of done, technical considerations and scaling. It ends with assessment preparation.

Exercises include a simulated sprint, an analysis of common misunderstandings and anti-patterns, facilitation practice and a series of scenario questions modelled on the style of the assessment. The trainer explains the reasoning behind each answer with reference to the Scrum Guide.

This course is aligned to the PSM I assessment from Scrum.org. The assessment is taken online and is not tied to attending a particular course; confirm current details and fees on the Scrum.org website.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to attend a course to take PSM I?

Is the assessment fee included?

Only when the batch shows the "Exam voucher included" badge. Otherwise you buy the assessment directly from Scrum.org.
